Honors, Awards, and Distinctions

Different indicators of success during the course of my educational career

Scholarships

Plater International Scholarship: $12,000/year, $2,500 study abroad stipend, $2,500 housing stipend.

This scholarship is awarded to students who students exemplify the ideals of an international scholar. These students serve as an American ambassador to students living in the International House on campus, allowing the scholarship recipients to experience multiple cultures and ethnicities at home while making the students feel welcome to IUPUI. To keep this scholarship, students must keep a 3.5 cumulative GPA, volunteer around the Indianapolis area at least 8 hours/year, and complete three credits of honors every semester.

Dean of Science Scholarship: $10,000 over 4 years

The Dean of Science Scholarship is awarded to direct admits of the Purdue School of Science who exemplify what it means to be an outstanding student. To receive this award, students must be chosen by the Dean and his review board before beginning courses at IUPUI. The award is granted to students who completed more than what could be expected before coming to college, including exception skills shown in scientific concentrations. Recipients have to maintain a 3.3 semester GPA and a 3.5 cumulative GPA within the School of Science and other IUPUI courses to keep the scholarship for all 4 years.

Urban Center for Advancement of STEM Education: $10,000 over 4 years

UCASE is an organization on IUPUI's campus that works to support education majors towards careers in science education. For me, UCASE included my desire for scientific education through community competitions and international teaching opportunities for this scholarship as a less traditional route of education. To keep this scholarship, recipients must stay enrolled full-time at IUPUI, stay within a major at Purdue School of Science, and volunteer through an organization that works towards STEM education for children, adults, or students. Recipients must keep a 3.3 cumulative GPA.

John F. Miller Merit Scholarship: $6,000 over 4 years

The John F. Miller Scholarship was established to assist 10 of TectaAmerica's families send their academically outstanding children to public or private universities throughout the country. Students of TectaAmerica employees wrote letters of intent and a personal statement to apply for the scholarship. 10 students collectively are given the scholarship each ear, meaning that 2-3 scholarship recipients are chosen each year (I was the first representative to receive a scholarship from the Indianapolis branches). Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 and maintain full-time status to keep the scholarship.

OVST Office of Overseas Study: $2,000

This scholarship is awarded to students participating in an IU Bloomington based study abroad experience. Students work as a student blogger for their program and submit one prompt per week of study abroad to assist future students on their international education as well as assisting students who may be visiting your institution.

Jefferson Awards Foundation Youth Service Award: 2013-2016

The Jefferson Awards Foundation (JAF) is an organization that works to improve the impact of service across the nation and across the globe. The JAF Youth Initiative works to push students between the ages of 8-25 to work towards a better future. Through this program, I traveled with almost 100 other students in the running for a JAF Service medal to the national conference in Washington DC to complete the final reviews and networking portion of the award. The award was given to a total of 26 students/groups, myself included.
