Metro College Application Process


Steps to Follow at Metro ECHS for the College Application Process


1.  GET AN APPLICATION


     Locate the link to the college's website in Naviance and/or The Common Application and find its link to admissions.   Complete the online application as directed.Locate the link to the college's website in

2.  COMPLETE THE APPLICATION


     Start completing your application(s) early.  As part of your Senior Communications course you are required to submit a minimum of (5) applications by December 1st.  Make sure that you follow the specific  


     deadline for each school.  


 


CHECKLIST FOR COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS:

Start completing your application(s) early. As part of the Senior Communications course, MECHS counselors strongly suggest December 1st as a target date for submitting at least (5) of your application(s). However, make sure that you follow the specific deadlines for each school.

CHECKLIST FOR COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS:

  •           Make sure that you utilize Naviance to submit your application, request your transcripts and request letters of recommendation.
  •           Read the entire application thoroughly for instructions and deadlines.
  •           Follow ALL directions. As you complete the application, proofread carefully. Spelling errors are unacceptable!
  •           Be sure to answer all questions and fill in all blanks (if you don’t understand a question, be sure to ask).

            Other Important Considerations about College Applications:

                                   *     Personal Statements and Essays (Just when required): These should be thoughtful, well written, and express something unique to set you apart from other applicants.

                                   *     Applications can include any or all of the following components:

1.   Application; 2. Counselor Completion Form; 3. Other Recommendations; 4. Essays; 5. Personal Statement; 6. NCAA Forms; 7. Financial Aid Forms; 8. Scholarship Forms; 9. Secondary School Report; 10. Mid-Year Grade Report

 

*    Make Sure You Have Submitted ALL the Requested Materials! 

 


3.  SUBMIT APPLICATION MATERIALS TO COLLEGE CHOICES AND REQUEST TRANSCRIPTS VIA NAVIANCE


To ensure all of your applications materials are completed and submitted by the deadline:


           1.  Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for transcript only.


           2.  Allow a minimum of 2 weeks if a secondary school report or counselor recommendation form is needed.


           3.  If you need a written recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or other community member please ask at least 2 weeks in advance of the deadline.

 

4.  SUBMIT YOUR FAFSA - FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (www.FAFSA.ED.GOV) starting in JANUARY 2015
 
              1.   All U.S. male citizens and male immigrants living in the U.S. are required to register with the Selective Service (if currently 18 years of age).
 
              2.  Examine your financial aid report (SAR).
 
             3.  Examine your financial aid award letter from the college(s) you are considering.
 
 
5.  APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
 
            1.  Apply for scholarships within the college(s) in which you are applying.
 
            2.  There are a multitude of local and national scholarships that are available via many internet sources. (See Enclosed List)
    

6.  MAKE YOUR COLLEGE SELECTION

        1.  Based upon all of the information in which you have gathered (majors, location, cost, financial aid package, etc.) choose the most approriate college for you.
