Spanish Service Learning

Spanish Language Through Arts and Recreation (SALTAR) is a service learning experience for students who are passionate about Spanish and enjoy working with children. While nurturing positive language learning experiences for children in local schools, SALTAR gives IC students a chance to merge their passion for Spanish and their various talents. The outcome is an unforgettable hands-on teaching experience. Ithaca College students lead after school Spanish enrichment classes for children and also collaborate with host teachers to provide Spanish instruction during the school day.

I participated in this program for the duration of my senior year. My specialty was Physical Education class, and I taught approximately 1-2 classes per week to a Kindergarten and a 1st Grade class. This experience fills my heart, and interacting with young students is an incredible opportunity. Multiple language education is something that I am extremely passionate about, and I feel lucky to be able to welcome such brilliant young minds into that space.
