Moon Journal Rationale

Context: This journal was made in fall 2007 in GS4401 under the advisement of Jeff Goodman.

The purpose of the journal was to learn the cycle of the moon and learn how to keep a log.

Impact: By doing the moon journal the students learned how to correctly keep a record log. every night when they looked up in the sky they saw a different phase of the moon this helped them to learn the phases and how the cycle of the move actually worked.

Alignment:

Standard 2: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in mathematics.

Indicator 2: This standard was met by applying relative position to the moon's position to determine what phases of the moon the moon was actually in.

Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.

Indicator 3: This indicator was met by learning about the cycles of the moon and what to look for when examining the sky. Also, how the moon effects us and what we are actually seeing.

Standard 12: Working alone, or with arts specialist teachers and/or other qualified arts professionals, elementary teachers are able to integrate the arts into the elementary curriculum.

This standard was met by drawing pictures of the moon individual in the journals as well as creating a finally project that clearly display the phases of the moon that were seen.
