IRI Assessment Rationale
Context: This reading assessment was performed fall 2007 in RE 4030 under the instruction of Dr. Ellen Pesko. It was given to a third grader at Blue Ridge Elementary.
The purpose of this assessment was to determine the reading level of an individual student and what could be done to improve his/her skills.
Impact: The reading assessment allowed an individual student to read a variety of material and show off the skills that they had. Once their reading level has been calculated it helps to find their instructional reading level as well as independent to help teach them better. Different reading material can be presented and the child can read at a comfortable level and not feel frustrated.
Alignment:
Standard 1: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in English Language Arts and Literacy.
Indicator 1: This standard was met by giving a reading assessment and determining the correct level for that child. The levels have to be understood and calculated.
Standard 7: Elementary teachers use developmentally appropriate strategies to design and deliver instruction in all areas of the elementary curriculum.
Indicator 1: This indicator was met by aligning the students levels with the national standards.
