The increase in the class average shows that the students were able to improve their knowledge of what was tested on the assessments. The improvement of .82 to 3.16 shows an improvement of 40% in the class average score. There were three students who received perfect scores. There were students who received zeros on the pre-assessment and received higher marks on the post-assessment. The five students who did not show improvement included one student who received a score of three points on the pre and post assessment. He made minor mistakes of labeling the area with the wrong units.
The three individual students represented work that was proficient, not proficient, and almost proficient. Student 14 is not labeled as TAG or ELL or IEP, and shows proficient work on the proficiency quizzes. Student 14 shows his work on most of his quizzes and is able to show he is proficient in the standard. Student 2 is not proficient. He received scores of zeros out of the 4.0 rubric scale on both his area proficiency quizzes. He also attained the same scores on his pre and post assessments. Student 2 is not proficient in the standard and he did not show any knowledge of the content. Student 20 is almost proficient. She received marks of 1.5 of both her proficiency quizzes. She needs a 2.0 to be proficient. She improved her score on the pre and post assessments, and turned in her homework quiz and notebook. Her parents came to conferences and checked on her progress in the class. These are only three students in the class. There are other students whose scores fluctuated and was higher on the first area quiz than the second area quiz. All the students took the proficiency quizzes, but not all the students took the pre and post assessments. There was only one student who did not take both the pre and post assessment, which is Student 13. I noticed that Student 13 is usually absent, and one time I had a conversation with him about Geometry. He said, "I don't need to learn geometry. Isn't it only for people who want to become architectures?" He said this during class and I responded to him how it could be useful in other careers as well and that even if he may not think he will not use it in his future he needs to pass this class to graduate high school.
