Week of 11/28 - 12/2

This week we will be wrapping up our Presidential Election Simulation and selecting our new class presidents. After our swearing in ceremony we will begin to analyze why the electoral college was created and how it affects presidential selection. We will look specifically at the 2000 presidential election between Gore/Bush and analyze how a president can win the popular vote but not obtain the necessary 270 electoral college votes to become president. We will also uncover the reasons why people between the age of 18-20 are the group that is least likely to vote.

We will have the results from our Presidential election and will soon swear in our class presidents. As we are waiting for the votes to come in, we will begin to focus on the Legislative Branch. This week students will identify what political party most closely represents their own political views, then we will divide the class into the House of Representatives and the Senate. We will learn what the function and purpose of the Legislative branch is.... to make laws! You will begin to brainstorm ideas for legislation and at last, to draft a bill that will be presented to the entire Congress and perhaps the President for his signature!

We will also focus on the upcoming final exam. On Monday I will hand out the study guide for the final exam. I have also posted it here in case you want to get a jump start.
