This week we will continue to analyze key ideas and governmental concepts from important European leaders. Also later this week we will start an analytical approach to an important U.S. document... the Constitution!. Students will begin to understand how this document directly contributes to our rights and privileges as Americans.

MONDAY, AUGUST 2ND

BELLWORK

 

1. Review from last class.- List the 6 functions of government guaranteed by the Constitution.

2. Which one is most important to you and why?

3. You have been asked to draft a declaration. What freedoms would you grant society? What laws would you create if any? What rules or laws might you do away with?

 

CLASSWORK

1. Discuss bellwork answers as a class. 

2. Introduction of the Preamble to the Constitution.

3. Begin the video The Almost Painless Guide to the U.S. Constitution. 

4. Have students answer the questions on the video.

 

HOMEWORK DUE THURSDAY, AUGUST 5TH

 

News Journal- Choose an article from the newspaper, internet, etc. and write a half page summary on the article. Also describe how this article pertains to government and include a copy of the article with the summary when you turn it in.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 3RD

BELLWORK

1. What did you do last week that would be considered civic virtue? Describe how you completed your homework assignment. 

2. How did it make you feel to know that you were doing a good deed?

3. What would you do if you were witnessing a crime as it happened? What would you do if someone was injured?

 

CLASSWORK

1. Finish the video the Almost Painless Guide to the U.S. Constitution. Collect video questions. 

2. Students will begin to present their personal videos. (8 presentations)

3. Group assignment - Constitution Reading Guide Worksheet 

4. Group activity- Writing activity the Three Branches of Government
