Background
Steven W. Lichtman, EdD, FAACVPR, is a Senior Lecturer in the Graduate Physical and Occupational Therapy Programs at Mercy College and is a Research Scientist and the Director of Cardiopulmonary Outpatient Services at Helen Hayes Hospital. He received a doctorate in Applied Physiology from Columbia University/Teachers College. Dr. Lichtman is the current President of The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) and recently served as the Co-Editor of its annual newsletter, Co-Chair of the AACVPR Annual Program Planning Committee and acting Chair of the AACVPR Cardiac Rehabilitation Registry Taskforce. Additionally, he is the immediate Past President of the New York State Association for Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation and is a past President of the Rockland Country Chapter of the American Heart Association. His research interests include exercise in patients with cardiac and pulmonary disease, and inter-disciplinary research on rehabilitation. Dr. Lichtman has published numerous articles and abstracts, and has presented both nationally and internationally on a variety of rehabilitation and exercise topics. His wife, Laura, is a special education teacher for the NYC Board of education and they have two wonderful children, Kevin and Ryan.
