PHTR 530DFA: Introduction to Research Theory
The purpose of this course is to provide the student an introduction to the basic language, logic and methods of research, as they relate to physical therapy. This course (along with Advanced Research Theory) will establish a foundation to initiate research projects which will be further developed in the courses Applied Research and Research Externship. This course will provide the student with the basic skills necessary to become an informed consumer of physical therapy research. This will enable the student to apply critical inquiry and research based information to clinical practice.
PHTR550DFA: Advanced Research Theory
The purpose of this course is to advance the concepts of the language, logic and methods of research, as they relate to physical therapy, begun in Intro to Research Theory (PHTR530). This course will finalize the foundation necessary to initiate research projects that will be further developed in the courses Applied Research Theory (PHTR610) and Research Externship (PHTR710). This course will provide the student with the advanced skills necessary to become an informed consumer of physical therapy research. This course will enable the student to apply critical inquiry and research based information to clinical practice.
PHTR 610DFA: Applied Research Theory
The purpose of this course is to provide the student a more thorough understanding of physical therapy research by combining existing clinical skills and knowledge with the research process. The student will work in small groups to apply knowledge of the research process to the formulation of a specific research plan. Online acquisition of pertinent research studies and analysis will allow independent development of a research protocol. Group discussions will enhance the student's critical inquiry process. Presentations will be utilized to help the students to see the role of the Physical Therapist engaged in research and on the research team.
