Photo Essay

Here is my rationale for my photo essay:
NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 15: Elementary teachers encourage underrepresented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science.
Indicator: Indicator 1: Teachers use a variety of strategies to encourage underrepresented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science. They:
Detail: Utilize community resources
Detail: Give personal attention and encouragement to underrepresented groups of students
Detail: Use relevant and real-world applications that interest a diverse population
Detail: Encourage underrepresented groups to assume leadership roles.

Context:

I created this photo essay for my Science CI3543 class.  I used a digital camera to take the photographs for my Photo Essay.  Then I put them into Power Point.   I learned how to add affects to my Power Point and how to compress it to save space on my disk.

Impact:

I will be able to use this photo essay in my classroom to help students with critical thinking skills.  The photo essay will get them thinking and make them wonder, the students will know that they can ask any question they want.  I can also have my students create their own photo essay.  This would give them a chance to ask the questions they want and gain experience with technology.

Alignment:

I met standard 15 indicator 1 by  using community resouces to to create my photo essay.  The photo eassay makes science content related to the real world,  this encourages undrepresented studnets to participate in class disscussion and in creating the photo essay.
