Synthesis of what I have Learned About Diversity

Here is my paper and rationale.

NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 15: Elementary teachers encourage underrepresented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science.
Indicator: Indicator 1: Teachers use a variety of strategies to encourage underrepresented groups to engage in the schooling process, especially math and science. They:
Detail: Give personal attention and encouragement to underrepresented groups of students
Detail: Use relevant and real-world applications that interest a diverse population

Context:

In my diversity class we had a variety of assignments and readings to further our knowledge of diversity in the classroom and our everyday lives.  My synthesis discusses the things that I have learned from my experiences in Block I Practicum.

Impact:

This class has impacted me in a very positive way.  I have become more sensitive to the fact that not everyone is like me.  Every person I will ever meet comes from a different background and life and I will strive to make sure that I do not judge them because of this.

Alignment:

I have met standard 15 indicator 1 by encouraging underrepresented groups in my first grade classroom at W. A. Young elementary.   I worked with them in the class for all of my lessons plans and helped them with theri work.  In math I used an M&M lesson to help interest them in the lesson
