Science Safety Check List

NC- North Carolina DPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standards
Standard: Standard 17: Elementary teachers understand safety and liability issues in elementary and advocate for appropriate safety materials and enforcement practices in the classroom.
Indicator: Indicator 2: Teachers analyze the lab/activities for safety and research materials/chemicals to know safety issues before they are used.
Indicator: Indicator 3: Teachers have a working knowledge and comply with the science Safety Laws, Codes, and Standards.

Context:

I completed this safety check sheet to meet a requirement of my CI 3543 class.  As a class we talked about things we thought it would be important for us to know about safety issues in the classroom.  From this discussion the safety check sheet was created.  I asked my cooperating teacher all the questions on it to find out about my classrooms safety.

Impact:

Doing this survey has impacted my students because I have learned the safety procedures that are in place.  This will enable me to keep them safe at all times.

Alignment:

I have met standard 17 indicator 2 by discussing with my cooperating teacher about the different chemicals that are in the classroom that students could gain access to.

I have met standard 17 indicator 3 by discussing the safety standards and laws in class.
