Context:
I taught this lesson in Mrs. Tallent’s second grade class, during my students teaching at North Brook Elementary. It was created to along with a unit on real life creepy things.
Impact:
This lesson impacted my students by giving them a chance to research different books to find out specific information on bats. It gave all students the chance to practice reading and research skills. It also helped them because they were required to work with a partner. They had to use teamwork to find the information. This lesson met art NCSCOS 2.01 Become familiar with additional art media, techniques and processes that may include: Cut paper - tape, and Printmaking - styrofoam, water soluble printing ink and English NCSCOS: 2.01 Read and comprehend text (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama) appropriate for grade two by:
* determining purpose (reader's and author's).
* making predictions.
* asking questions.
* locating information for specific reasons/purposes.
* recognizing and applying text structure.
* comprehending and examining author's decisions and word choice.
* determining fact and opinion.
* recognizing and comprehending figurative language.
* making inferences and draw conclusions.
2.02 Use text for a variety of functions, including literary, informational, and practical, 2.06 Recall main idea, facts and details from a text, and 2.08 Interpret information from diagrams, charts, and maps.
Alignment:
I have met standard 12 by integrating the arts into the curriculum. Students created their bat book with construction paper, scissors, and glue.
