Context:
I gave the reading assessment to a 3rd grader at Mountain View Elementary in Ashe county. The assessment took place in the library of the school so there would be minimal distractions.
Impact:
Giving this assessment has impacted me greatly because I was able to see this student move from their independent level to their frustration level. This helped me understand how a child would read at each level. I have seen that the level of a a students fluency directly relates to that students reading level and comprehension level. As a result of giving this assessment I am now better able to assess what level students can read on.
Alignment:
I have met Standard 7, Indicator 7 because this is one type of individual assessment that will help aid in the education of my students. By doing this assessment I will be more able to plan instructional and engaging activities for every student in my classroom, no matter their reading level.
I have met Standard 1, Indicator 1 because by doing this assessment, I have prepared myself to determine what developmental level students are on. During this assessment, I gathered the information, organized it, and finally analyzed it to create instructional strategies that will benefit this student.
