Story Picture Rationale
Context: In this Story Picture Project, we used a digital camera to tell the story of The Whopper Cake by Karma Wilson. The members in my group included Joanna Ferrara, Ashley O'Dea and myself. We took eight pictures that best described the book and put them in a jumbled order onto the web page. We then ask the students to determine the correct order of the pictures and to place the pictures in order from one to eight on the web page. As a follow up, we then have the students write out a recipe with given ingredients and ask them to put the ingredients in order.
Impact: This assignment will allow for students to use technology through computers, (and in advanced grades cameras), in order to show their understanding of a literature book shared in class beforehand. To fully grasp the material each student must know the sequence of a given story and in this case the definition of a recipe.
Alignment:
-NETS-T VI-E: Every student inside the class will have an efficient amount of time to work on this project, either in groups or alone. The instructor will allow for appropriate time in a computer lab if their classroom is not capable to meet the needs of the students.
-NETS-T II-A: Through the use of computers each student will reiterate reading comprehension by sorting pictures in correct order that matches the literature. Their ability to type up a recipe using the ingredients given will further their technology skills.
-NETS-T IV-C: Each student will be evaluated on their ability to correctly sort the pictures in order. They will also be evaluated on the knowledge of what a recipe is and to correctly use the ingredients given to form a recipe.
-NETS-T IV-A: The students will be evaluated on their computer skills. These skills include finding the class web page and following directions.
-NETS-T VI-D: Every student will show the appropriate safety measures needed to operate a computer. Safety in and around the computer will be of high significance.
