Technology on Campus

All of the computers at Salpointe Catholic High School operate in the Windows 7 environment using Microsoft Office 2013.  Students should be aware of the software versions installed on school computers so that if they are creating files at home to use or view on school machines they save as the appropriate file type and version.

In addition to approximately 385 computers on campus, Salpointe Catholic High School has almost 50 interactive white boards throughout campus and VHS and DVD viewing capability in every classroom, the library and the computer lab.

Students at Salpointe have access to tremendous software resources.  In addition to Office 2013, Salpointe students have access to Adobe Creative Suites 6 (Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), Geometer's Sketchpad, Windows Live MovieMaker, and Audacity (open source sound editing software) just to name a few.

Privacy

There is no assumption of privacy while on the Salpointe network.

SCHS technology use by students, faculty, and staff is not private and may be monitored at any time by designated SCHS staff to ensure appropriate use.

Internet Access on Campus

Faculty, staff and students have access to the Internet, which is paid by the school.

The user is ultimately responsible for his/her actions in use of computer resources and in accessing the Internet when using his/her Salpointe Internet account whether on school property or away from campus at a remote computer.

All Internet sites accessed are monitored and logged by username.

Content filtering is active on the gateway which connects our network
to the rest of the Internet. All web pages are accessed through this filter.

Our filter service categorizes all web pages into one or more
of 56 categories.

We have a firewall in place for the security of the network and it’s users.

If you attempt to access blocked sites for content or visit sites that are in direct violation of the AUP, you will receive a message telling you that the site has been blocked.

That activity is reported by the firewall to the Network Administrator among others.
If the activity poses a security risk or violates the AUP, your computer privileges can be suspended.

Security is not only a responsibility – it is a legal requirement for schools.  For more information– please see: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cipa.html
