Hi. I’m Suzi Malisewski and I am a life-long learner (you have to be if you are involved in technology!). I am also the Educational Technology Coordinator for Salpointe Catholic High School.  My primary role is to support and train the faculty and staff as it relates to technology on campus, and to support teachers when working with students on technology projects.

Two facets of my job I am passionate about are:

  1. Helping people discover ways to allow technology to make their lives easier
  2. Helping people use technology to craft a message to share their passions with others

Technology is not unlike other elements of our lives, we learn what we do, and we learn what we practice. I tell people they should never be afraid to fail when trying something new with technology, as that failure always teaches us something!

I was born in Oregon, raised in California before moving to Tucson.  I am a graduate of Catalina High School and received my B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Arizona, majoring in Clothing and Textiles from the School of Family and Consumer Science. After graduation, I worked in the retail industry for several years. Beginning in 1989 and for the next 18 years, my husband and I owned and operated Color Design Systems, a small manufacturing firm that made sundry items for the professional hairdressing industry.  As part of owning my own company, I found that technology was helpful in automating many repetitive tasks.  I taught myself the general office applications, as well as desktop publishing and dabbled in a little web design.

In the fall of 2006, we sold our business and had the opportunity to pursue other career interests.  My husband Tom, a second-generation hairdresser, opened Gloss Studio.  I had been doing some volunteer work for the Salpointe Catholic Education Foundation at the time, and was encouraged to apply for a position at Salpointe. When I read the job description, I knew it was a good fit.

In the traditional sense, I’m not an “IT” person. I’ve been a technology user all of my life and I understand the frustrations. I know how much it helps to have someone speak about technology in layman’s terms instead of in “IT lingo.”

Outside of school I enjoy watching my kids play sports, taking pictures, skiing (both snow and water) and cooking. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place on earth.
