Site Support Providers

The Site Support Provider's dedication to the art and science of teaching provides the candidate with the practical knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become a highly effective teacher. The partnership with the district and Site Support Provider is highly valued by the National University Teacher Education Department.

The Site Support Provider's responsibilities include:

  1. Modeling, coaching, mentoring, assessing, and evaluating the candidate’s performance, based on the California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs).
  2. Providing frequent, clear, specific feedback to the candidate.
  3. Communicating regularly with the University Support Provider.  This may be in e-mail, phone or video conferencing, whichever is most convenient for you both.
  4. Determining the student teacher’s progress in collaboration with the National University Support Provider.
  5. Contacting the University Site Support Provider if the candidate requires additional assistance or circumstances arise that need the university’s intervention.

A chart that provides some guidelines for how a candidate moves from observation to full day teaching is provided below.  Please know that each candidate is different so the guidelines are adjustable depending upon the experiences a candidate brings.
