Prepare for the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)

Overview:

Demonstrating Basic Skills in reading, writing, and math is required for all Credential Programs that National University offers.

Specifically for the Preliminary Education Specialist, Multiple and Single Subject Teaching Credential Programs, attempt to meet the Basic Skills requirement must be demonstrated prior to program admission.

Proof of meeting the Basic Skills requirement must be on file with the university prior to Student Teaching or Internship.

How to meet the Basic Skills Requirement:

Candidates may meet the Basic Skills Requirement by any of the following:

  1. CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) English and Mathematics sections

           Or

  1. CSU English Placement (EPT) Test and the Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) Test
  • Achieve the minimum acceptable scores on the College Board SAT examination. Individuals who achieve a score of at least 500 on the SAT English exam and a score of at least 550 on the SAT mathematics exam are determined to have met the basic skills requirement.
  • Achieve the minimum acceptable scores on the ACT examination. Individuals who achieve a score of at least 22 on the ACT English exam and a score of at least 23 on the ACT mathematics exam are determined to have met the basic skills requirement.
