Q. Why did I receive a non-passing score?
A. All non-passing submissions have been triple scored; the third (and final) score is assigned by our Lead Assessor. The rationale for each non-passing submission can vary; the session with a Remediation Specialist will help you identify the areas needing improvement.
Q. What are the steps for re-submitting my task?
A. Once you receive your non-passing score from Taskstream, you should also receive an email with remediation instructions. In order to re-submit your task, you will:
1. View online TPA modules.
You will view the "Basics" section and the section for the task assigned a non-passing score.
2. Set up a virtual meeting with TPA Remediation Specialist.
You will receive the Specialist's contact information in the email with remediation instructions.
3. Complete the virtual remediation session.
Complete the feedback survey. Within 24 business hours, you will receive notification your task is available for edits.
4. Make revisions to your task & re-submit
Q. How long will this entire process take?
A. The exact timeframe for resubmission can vary; the timeframe is also largely dependent upon you. Once you receive your Remediation Specialist's contact information, please email them immediately; you will typically receive a reply within 24 business hours. While you are waiting for the Remediation Specialist to reply to your email, please begin viewing the pertinent online TPA modules as you will not be able to schedule a remediation appointment until this step is complete.
Typically a virtual remediation is scheduled within 7-10 days of your intial email to the Specialist. Once you complete your remediation session, you will have access to edit your task in Taskstream within 24 business hours. At that point, you can make edits to your task and re-submit according to your own timeline. Once you re-submit, please allow 7-10 days for scoring per typical procedures.
Q. Will I still meet my student teaching deadline date?
A. Deadline dates are different for each local campus. If you receive a non-passing score and are concerned about your deadline, please contact the local credential specialist working with you to coordinate your student teaching placement (i.e. the person emailing you the deadline dates and your progress meeting each requirement).
Q. Can my Remediation Specialist read and/or edit my task prior to re-submission?
A. No, they cannot per CalTPA procedures and National University's Honor Code.
Q. Will I need to re-type my entire submission?
A. No. Once you meet with your Remediation Specialist and have access to your work in Taskstream, you will make edits and additions to your previous submission.
Q. When I re-submit my task, will my assessor know I have previously received a non-passing score?
A. An assessor does not know if they are evaluating an initial or re-submission; they also do not know your name and/or student ID number. All submissions are anonymous.
Q. Will I be charged a fee when I re-submit my task?
A. Yes, each submission is charged an assessment fee. The fees are, as follows:
Subject Specific Pedagogy TPA Task 1: $65
Designing Instruction TPA Task 2: $65
Assessing Learning TPA Task 3: $65
Culminating Teaching Experience TPA Task 4: $110
Q. What if I receive a second non-passing score?
A. If your second attempt is assigned a non-passing score of 1 or 2, a Candidate Assistance Plan will be developed for you prior to completing your second remediation session. You will most likely remediate with a different Remediation Specialist.
Q. Where is there more information about non-passing scores and remediation?
A. Our online TPA modules contain a section devoted to non-passing scores and remediation. Click here to be directed to this section of the modules.
