"Candidates applying for initial certification in New York on or after May 1, 2014, will be required to take and pass the edTPA. edTPA is a student-centered multiple measure assessment of teaching. It is designed to be educative and predicting of effective teaching and student learning. Stanford University faculty and staff at Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning, and Equity (SCALE) developed edTPA. They received substantive advice and feedback from teachers and teacher educators" (edTPA for NYS, 2013).

"The New York State Teacher Certification Examinations™ (NYSTCE®) address New York Education Law and Commissioner's Regulations, which require prospective New York State educators to pass designated tests as a requirement for receiving state certification" (NYSTCE Program Overview, 2013).

"The New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the New York State Board of Regents have announced the development of new tests required for teacher and School Building Leader certification in New York. The new tests include a portfolio-based Teacher Performance Assessment, an Educating All Students Test, an Academic Literacy Skills Test, revised Content Specialty Tests, and a revised School Building Leader Assessment" (Testing Program Updates, 2013).
