I completed Academic Writing at a college near my home before coming to Ithaca, so I uploaded a paper I wrote for one of my classes during my first year at IC. This paper meets the outcomes for Academic Writing because it is a source-based paper and I do a good job with writing in an organized and clear manner. It is designed for a specific audience: my classmates who are interested in how organizations work. Our assignment was to write about a topic that's important in the workplace. My target audience was my classmates and I had a partner who provided feedback on my earlier drafts of the paper. Originally, I wanted to talk just about the benefits of having a good supervisor-subordinate relationship, but my partner suggested that I provide more information about how to have a better supervisor-subordinate relationship, as that would be more useful and practical. My partner also suggested including some specific examples like the Enron scandal. It's an old scandal but we had already talked about it in class, so it was something my classmates knew and was relevant to them.
