Proposed actions to achieve goal: HEOP will attend the following conferences to reaffirm its commitment to the program and to rejuvenate the intellectual growth of the staff. These conferences will include but not be limited to: 1. College Reading and Learning Association, 2. HEOPPO Professional organization meetings in Albany and locally, 3. Tri-State Consortium of Opportunity Programs, 4.On -line webinars such as CICU, 5.Monthly HEOP meetings with AVP
Expected Results: 1. Heop staff will be open to new ideas and suggestions, 2.New competencies will allow the staff to play a more active role in service and program planning, 3.Overall the staff will improve program design and delivery.4. Attendance at CRLA conference to be held at Manhattan College will provide the staff with new ideas and practices in improving student learning.
Details/Description: Attending conferences, workshops, training sessions as well as collaborating with colleagues will intellectually stimulate the staff in providing new and invigorating challenges for themselves. In return, these new opportunities will encourage the staff professional growth which will ultimately benefit students.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: Student activities to enrich and stimulate the academic, financial and career growth of students. This will be done by the following: 1.Student Panel: Upper classmen in each of their respective schools will meet with freshmen to offer advice on major, course selection, internships and career choices,2.Team Building Exercise:During the fall semester students will attend a team building exercise to further enhance peer relationships, 3.Study peer groups will be provided on basis of needs for courses that present a low passing grade,,4.fall and spring Career Counseling sessions with the Career Development office,5.FASFA DAY for all students, 6.Mandated tutorial and study hall,7.Advocacy/Lobby Day.
Expected Results: 1. Student Panel will allow freshmen to make peer connections within their majors and create an opportunity of collaborative learning. This will serve as a informational and motivational session within the majors and the expectations of achievement needed. In addition, upperclassmen will be able to practice presentation skills and to access their own career objectives,2.To provide fellowship, release anxiety, open conversations and camaraderie among the students,3.To improve the academic performance in a subject with high withdrawals or unsatisfactory grading,4..All students will begin to discuss career plans as it relates to major. Topics such as mock interviews, resume writing, and cover letter will be addressed to better prepare students for graduate school or professional employment. This will be done in conjunction with the Career Development office.5. All students will be better able to fill out their financial documentation on time and with less errors to be corrected and resubmitted,6.All students at 2.5 or below cumulative index will be mandated to tutorial and 5 hours of study hall,7.All students will be encouraged to attend Lobby Day in Albany to educate legislators and advocate for policies that will bring about awareness of issues in Higher Education.
Details/Description: Student participation in support services fosters a sense of positive reinforcement as well as learning how to work with a team and the ability to use the skills that they have learned in class.
 
Admissions
HEOP will work collaboratively with the office of admissions to create and implement recruiting and admissions policies in accordance with NYS HEOP guidelines.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: 1. To create a HEOP Admissions Committee, 2.To collaborate with Student Financial Services during the application cycle.
Expected Results: To improve the number of qualified applications to be reviewed and interviewed while making sure they are financially eligible.
Details/Description: Continued collaboration between Admissions and HEOP to ensure enrollment figures and Student Financial Services in creating an awards package suitable to both SED and the institution.

Program level; Indirect - Interview
 
 
Proposed actions to achieve goal: 1. HEOP will establish an interview committee which will consist of colleagues who have experience in support service programs for the under-represented and first generation college student, 2.HEOP will collaborate with Student Financial Services during the application process to make sure applicants who are academically eligible are also financially eligible.
Expected Results: 1. to assign a overall rating to the applicant, 2.to make a decision on the applicant that is more clear cut, 3. to fine tune the overall composition of the incoming heop class.
Details/Description: Admissions will select from their applicant pool qualified heop candidates. From there HEOP will receive financial information from students in which they will pass on to SFS to begin the financial eligibility process. Finally students who meet both criteria will be selected for a interview by the committee.Continued collaboration between all three departments will in effect help to enroll the most qualified students and a award package suitable to SED and the institution.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: 1. HEOP will renew marketing strategies by creating a recruiting brochure, 2.work with admissions on a recruiting contact list for feeder schools,3.reconnect with local feeder counselors.
Expected Results: Incorporating new marketing strategies and tools HEOP will increase its visibility both in the schools and community while overall increasing viable applicants from

                        reliable affiliations.
Details/Description: New marketing material and new contacts will be used to further our commitment to HEOP a recruitment and admissions to Manhattan College.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: 1. HEOP will emphasize the use of MapWorks to expand collaboration with faculty members to discern students proper educational planning, 2.Emphasis on early and frequent academic and career exploration with special attention to students' in the first two years of study, 3. To create and formalize exit interviews to best understand factors affecting attrition. This will include focus groups and surveys.
Expected Results: Previous efforts have already resulted in improved 4 and 5 year graduation rates for HEOP. The 2012 HEOP retention graduation report shows that 55.56% graduated and the 2013 report shows 66.67%. Our goal is to increase this number to 70%. Implementing further proposed actions, it is expected to have a continued positive impact, with graduation rates falling in line with institutional expectations.
Details/Description: HEOP will continue to offer services, work closer with faculty members, academic advisors and the Center for Academic Success in order to continue our improvement in the area of retention.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: The new proximity of the HEOP offices in relationship to the Center for Academic Success affords students the opportunity to participate in a variety of services. This includes tutorial,supplementary instruction, academic coaching and workshops, and tailored and mandatory study groups. HEOP's course completion rate for fall, 2016 is at 94.94%, 33.82%successfully made the Deans list and 57.35% had cumulative gpa's of 3.0 or better with an average cumulative gpa of 2.98.
Expected Results: To maintain an environment surrounded by success and achievement. This allows the student to put forth effort in obtaining their goals while meeting the expectations of the program.
Details/Description: Students attending services provided by the center and the program will obtain and maintain skills that will allow them to remain in good academic standing. Good academic standing is defined by 39%of the fall cumulative index fell between 2.0-2.9. While 57.35% achieved a cumulative of 3.0+. Heop will raise the number for 2.0-2.9 back to 45% as we did for fall, 2015 and 49.25 for fall 2014.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: To provide funding and opportunities within the confines of the HEOP grant and college resources to support both academic and extra-curricular activities.
Expected Results: It is expected that with the reallocation of some program funding that student awareness,involvement and participation in college sponsored events will become much more attainable.
Details/Description: More students will have the opportunity to travel Abroad and participate in a wide variety of LOVE trips. This will give more students the opportunity to integrate themselves into the college while gaining valuable cultural experiences.
