GoalMapping
Debby Ziering’s donation of materials of her late father, Herman Ziering to the HGI Center provides a unique opportunity to compile a case study of a “low profile” Nazi hunter that would enable an investigation of motivational characteristics that drive such activity. This with all the materials will culminate in the Ziering Archive Fund at MC.

      Opportunities:

      Research center for scholars

Archive and material center for National and International Scholars

Part of larger gallery of artifacts

Share with other similar local museums

      Create programs around these archives

HGI Center will host a conference entitled: An Inter-religious Training for Faith Leaders in the summer of 2018.

This will be a training group that will run for two weeks focused on bringing in Jewish, Muslim and Christian religious leaders.

The Union Theological Seminary has created a woman’s interfaith residency program for the last two years and it has been very effective and unique. HGI would like to create a similar program at MC for our students both male and female.

Holocaust, Genocide, and Interfaith Education Center Goal Set 2016-2017

Goal

I.Create a Ziering Archive Fund for scholars and students
Debby Ziering’s donation of materials of her late father, Herman Ziering to the HGI Center provides a unique opportunity to compile a case study of a “low profile” Nazi hunter that would enable an investigation of motivational characteristics that drive such activity. This with all the materials will culminate in the Ziering Archive Fund at MC.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: The method by which we will archive and utilize these donated materials is through an analysis of other similar archives.
Expected Results: The value that this archive can add is immeasurable and the rare opportunity of hosting such an archive will facilitate the lessons of the Holocaust but more importantly these lessons can spill over into multiple students’ lives. For example; at the Bronx High School a Korean student pointed out to her classmates that in another part of the world, the Japanese were killing Koreans and Chinese. Another student saw a modern-day parallel in the genocide in Darfur and led efforts to raise $2,000 for Darfur schoolchildren by selling bracelets.
Details/Description: Evidence shows in researching other archives similar to the one that we want to create that it is a valuable resource and attraction for scholars from all over the country. Example: Bronx Science High School Holocaust Museum created a Holocaust Museum Study Center that took 12 years in the making and 1 million dollars. It has been used by community, scholars around the world, medical students, engineers and educators for their own research.

Example: Iona College and the Thomas Paine Studies/Institute is a valuable source for scholars and Westchester schools K-12 that utilize this facility.

II. Interreligious Training Progarm at the HGI Center.
HGI Center will host a conference entitled: An Inter-religious Training for Faith Leaders in the summer of 2018.

This will be a training group that will run for two weeks focused on bringing in Jewish, Muslim and Christian religious leaders.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: Use the Spring conference as a model and pilot of assessment outcomes

Create data survey for scholars on the viability of such a conference every other year.

Media at the spring conference will provide measurable.
Expected Results: New scholarship and publication

III. Create an “Interfaith Residency Program for MC students”
The Union Theological Seminary has created a woman’s interfaith residency program for the last two years and it has been very effective and unique. HGI would like to create a similar program at MC for our students both male and female.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: Use data from UTS and student narratives

Ask for models that can assess the experiences

                 Compare Arches to this program
Expected Results: “Further develop First Year Experience programming to be attentive to and inclusive of all cultures and backgrounds and students’ unique developmental needs”. This could also be strictly for first year students.
Details/Description: Collaborate with Arches/Service programs

                 Select what and which students?

Create a committee of religious experts to oversee the program.

IV. HGI will create an Interfaith woman’s trip to Poland.
20 women from the Abrahamic faiths to Auschwitz for education and renewal of each other’s faiths.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: Compare and assess other trips that many other groups have done and create an assessment form.

Participants must write and assess the program and trip.

Do a longitudinal study of the participants for analyzing the effects of such a trip.

                 Please see details/description
Expected Results: The experience of travelling to another part of the world for anyone is what MC has created as global leadership and that these experiences with the focus on Study Abroad and Love trips have created an indelible mark on our students. As the plan states: “Transcend traditional disciplinary, programmatic, cultural, and physical boundaries”. This would be a corner stone of such a transformation through the college.
Details/Description: Build partnerships with Manhattan College faculty.

                 Partner with study abroad.

                 Build connections in Poland.
