If resource requests are met, the transfer admission operation seeks to increase enrollment of undergraduate programs through establishing partnerships with local community colleges (Bronx Community College and Westchester Community College) to create Joint Admission Agreements (with competitive tuition rates to catch up with similar competitor programs:ex. Marist, Fordham) for students transitioning into the Manhattan College undergraduate programs for Allied Healthcare Leadership and Organizational Leadership

Enrollment Management will work to attract and enroll a greater number of transfer students from a larger variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, who are well qualified for their program of choice and will embrace the Lasallian mission and tradition.

In being consistent with the Lasallian mission, we will seek to enroll transfer students from under served communities, particularly our local Latino and veteran populations.

We will conduct a thorough review of the process in which transfer students receive financial aid. Focusing on the discount percentage, student demographics, and goals of the college, we will determine the best way to leverage financial aid to enroll the most well rounded transfer class possible.

With the assistance of an administrative assistant, it is the goal of transfer admissions to digitize operations, making the application, review, and enrollment process smoother for the applicant and Manhattan College administrator. We hope to provide the applicant with the option to check their application status online, as well as review when all documents have been received. We also seek to utilize already purchased Banner software to review applications electronically, while also distributing high school and college transcripts to necessary academic departments when needed.

Assessment Methods

Incorporate SCPS Undergraduate Programs into Transfer Admission Operation

Goal

Establish SCPS Undergraduate Recruitment Strategy
If resource requests are met, the transfer admission operation seeks to increase enrollment of undergraduate programs through establishing partnerships with local community colleges (Bronx Community College, Hostos Community and Westchester Community College) to create Joint Admission Agreements (with competitive tuition rates to catch up with similar competitor programs:ex. Marist, Fordham) for students transitioning into the Manhattan College undergraduate programs for Allied Healthcare Leadership and Organizational Leadership

Proposed actions to achieve goal: The transfer admission operation team has already established relationships with the primary contact for articulation agreements at Bronx Community College and Westchester Community College (listed below). Throughout the next academic year, we intend to formalize joint admission agreements with both institutions for our two bachelors programs within the school of continuing and professional studies.

                        Bronx Community College

                        Alexander Ott, Ed.D

 Increase Transfer Student Population

Goal

Increase Quality of Transfer Applicants
Enrollment Management will work to attract and enroll a greater number of transfer students from a larger variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, who are well qualified for their program of choice and will embrace the Lasallian mission and tradition.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: Attract some of the brightest scholars from LaGuardia Community College that will be completing an Associate Degree. The Transfer Provost Award would assist with establishing better partnerships with area community colleges and (based on the demographics of the community colleges) increasing the diversity of enrolled students at Manhattan College in each of the traditional five schools of study.
Expected Results: One award of $25,000 per year for a maximum of three years of undergraduate study will be awarded to two students entering Manhattan College into one of our STEM areas of study. Students will be required to participate in one academic based student organization throughout their time at Manhattan.
Details/Description: The Transfer Provost Award was established for 5 transfer students graduating from Westchester Community College and entering one of the five schools of study at Manhattan College during the fall 2016 semester. All applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and the scholarship partnership between Manhattan College and Westchester Community College is facilitated through Transfer Admissions at MC and the Scholarship Programming office at WCC.

In 2017, we hope to expand the Transfer Provost Award to LaGuardia Community College with an emphasis on STEM applicants. The primary contact for the partnership at LaGuardia Community College will be Dr. Bart Grachan, Interim Associate Dean for Progress & Completion.

LaGuardia Community College was selected as the next institution to partner with for the Transfer Provost Awards because of the positive feedback received from The MC Dean of Engineering regarding transfers to his school from LaGuardia, and because of the desire for the MC Dean of Science to increase enrollment with quality students.

Recruitment of First Generation and Under Served Populations
In being consistent with the Lasallian mission, we will seek to enroll transfer students from under served communities, particularly our local Latino and veteran populations.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: We will increase our presence at two year colleges by not only participating in fairs, but also completing at least two individual visits each semester, and we seek to further enhance relationships with veterans affairs offices and transfer coordinator spaces at the two year institutions.
Expected Results: We would like to see a greater number of enrolled commuter students by the fall 2018 semester. This is tracked on a weekly basis by the office of admissions, with reporting of three year comparison data to help us determine if the increased recruitment efforts are working.
Details/Description: Below, is a list of schools that will now be visited a minimum of 5 times each academic year (as opposed to 1 or 2 visits between 2014-2016 and zero or 1 visit a year prior to that).

                        Rockland Community College

                        Westchester Community College

                        Dutchess Community College

                        Bronx Community College

                        Hostos Community College

                        LaGuardia Community College

                        Nassau Community College

                        Suffolk County Community College

Review of Transfer Financial Aid Model
We will conduct a thorough review of the process in which transfer students receive financial aid. Focusing on the discount percentage, student demographics, and goals of the college, we will determine the best way to leverage financial aid to enroll the most well rounded transfer class possible.

Click to Collapse MeasureMeasure: Annual Financial Aid Review
Other level; Direct - Other

Proposed actions to achieve goal: Through regular communication with the VP of Enrollment Management, during February of each year, the Director of Financial Aid and Director of Transfer Admissions will develop a financial aid strategy to meet the unique needs of this student population.

To ensure we are staying true to the mission of Manhattan College, we develop a transfer financial aid package with attention paid to the under-served, underrepresented students, as well as those deserving of merit recognition (transfers with cumulative GPA above 3.0) and those that have been active participants in an honors program or organization at their previous institution.
Expected Results: Since 2014, transfer admissions has enrolled a minimum of 160 students during the fall semester, and a minimum of 60 students during the spring terms. We seek a steady increase in overall enrollment and to remain at a minimum of 35% of the overall transfer student body to be represented by minority students (which has been the case since the fall 2014 semester).
Details/Description: Transfer students have been, and will continue to be, considered for the following academic merit awards.

                        Transfer Presidential Scholarship

                        Deans Transfer Award

                        Transfer Chancellors Award

                        Transfer Founders Award

*Transfer Provost Award (specific to WCC)

Transfer students will also be considered for need-based institutional, state, and federal grants and loans. In 2017, we will also consider establishing a new award specific to those students participating in an honors program/society that would be on top of the awards mentioned above.

Proposed actions to achieve goal: With the additional support staff, in six months we seek to increase proficiency of the transfer operation with regard to turnaround time for completed applications and credit evaluations, as well as follow up with phone calls, emails and all correspondence with prospective students.
Expected Results: In six months, we anticipate being able to offer preliminary transfer credit evaluations to prospective and accepted students, increasing our visibility and ability to comply with requests of potential applicants.

Within one year, we anticipate being able to provide applicants the ability to check their admission status digitally or by phone.
Details/Description: With current application turnaround times of 3-5 weeks, we hope that with the digital admission options along with the transfer admission support staffing in place, applicant review times can be lessened to 2-4 weeks.

We also feel that transfer credit evaluations can be reviewed/processed within 72 hours, a decrease in time from 3 - 6 weeks and it will centralize a space on campus for all who request transfer evaluations.
