Center for Urban Resilience and Environmental Sustainability (CURES)

Administrative Goals

Outside speakers will increase the awareness of environmental challenges among students and faculty.

     

      Pope Francis delivered a speech on the rights of the poor, the injustices of unemployment, and the need for environmental protection in September 2015. CURES hosted a conference which has the title of Made in the Bronx: Green Buildings, Green Jobs in November 2015. CURES will again host two major speakers on environment and sustainability-related topics for a college-wide as well as outside community audience.

     

      Evidence-based rationale for including goal: This goal is in keeping with a charge from the CURES steering committee, which fulfilled Core Goal 2.5 of the strategic plan calling for the establishment of a “Center for Sustainable Development.”
 
Hiring and mentoring an assistant to redesign and maintain the CURES’ web site, update the announcements of internship, meeting, and collaboration and funding opportunities for students and faculty at Manhattan College.
 
Organize activities to increase the awareness of environmental issues and solutions among students, faculty and community.
 
Construction costs of five new beds and as well as maintenance of the farm
 
Organize a “Student Symposium on the Environment”. It will highlight environmental research projects, artistic expressions, and service work being done by all disciplines. The symposium will include all disciplines. It will highlight environmental research projects, artistic expressions, and service work being done by students at the college.
 
Two representatives from the college will attend NCSE's 17th National Conference and Global Forum on Science, Policy and the Environment.
