A passed background check is required at the point of admission to the program or your participation in the first field experience (EDUC 301/318 or General/Secondary Methods). 

How do I get a background check? 

• We complete our background checks through ESPB. To start the process please email education@mayvillestate.edu requesting a background check packet and provide your address.  A packet will be mailed to you and you will follow the steps listed on the front page of the packet. 

How long is the background check good for? 

• Background checks are good for 18 months from the date that the check is received.  You will need to provide proof of passed background check through the end of your student teaching experience.  

How long does it take to get results? 

• The background check takes about 3-5 weeks to process.  Please keep in mind that prior to sending in the packet of information you will need to find a location to get fingerprinted, complete the paperwork, and mail the documents.  I would plan early so that you can ensure you receive the results on time. 

How do I get the results and what do I do with them? 

• The results will come to you via email directly from ESPB.  You will need to upload a screenshot of the results and the date received into the background check area of Taskstream (located in the admission and continuance DRF).  An example of what should be uploaded can be found below. 

What if I already have completed a background check, can I use those results? 

• We are able to use the results of your current background check if you can show the date the results were received and that it has been checked through FBI and BCI.  
• Please also note that a current sub license will also fit the requirement for a background check because the process has already been completed by ESPB.  If you have a sublicense please upload the document to the background check area of Taskstream.
