In-service Master’s Research Paper or Project; the Literacy Capstone
The changing role of the reading literacy professional is linked to development functions currently seen as integral to school reform. In local schools staff development may be initiated by school improvement teams (SITs), on which a literacy professional may sit as a member.
Students in the Master's in Literacy Education Program will be required to plan for and make an in-service presentation during their program. The construction and research for this in-service will be directed by the Coordinator and/or the Literacy Peer Coaching Team as well as by advisors to the program including the Literacy Team and the M.Ed. Literacy Education Advisory Council Members. The development of the in-service will be in cooperation with other professional educators within school settings to assure currency and forward thinking. The in-service experience has been designed so that students in the Master's in Literacy Program will exercise and demonstrate leadership ability.
