Vision

Our vision of a literacy professional is of a leader within the educational community.   The Master of Education in Literacy Education Program is designed to prepare reading specialists, primarily for K-12 education, but also for community colleges, industry, adult education programs, commercial education centers, and private practice. Candidates grow in both their knowledge and application related to literacy and reading as they proceed through the program.  Our goal is to help our candidates become a Maryland certified effective, excellent, ethical professional who is reflective and capable of independent practice and lifelong professional development.

The Graduate Literacy Education Program at Frostburg State University does not subscribe to a particular position on literacy. It closely reflects the broad, comprehensive knowledge and skills outlined in the Standards for Literacy Professionals developed by the International Literacy Association, 2010. http://www.reading.org/General/CurrentResearch/Standards/ProfessionalStandards2010.aspx
