Internship I

The Internship I experience (EDUC 696: Internship I) occurs during this field experience.  Candidates will complete a 6-week internship in a partnering school, working with an assigned mentor teacher and university supervisor, for a minimum of 30+ days.  During the Internship I, candidates are expected to observe and collaborate with the mentor teacher, gradually performing all professional and teaching responsibilities in the classroom, culminating in a minimum of five (5) full days of planning and teaching, three (3) of which must be consecutive. A five (5) day instructional unit will be developed and taught during the experience. A university supervisor will formally observe each candidate on at least two (2) occasions. In addition, candidates must complete course assignments and other field assignments outlined in the handbook.  

Internship I Seminar

With the MAT-E Coordinator, the cohort will agree on a day/time for the weekly EDUC 696 Seminar.  Interns will meet for two (2) hours weekly to discuss program requirements and field experience expectations.  This will continue each week for the duration of the semester.

Internship II

The Internship II experience (EDUC 697: Practicum II and Seminar) occurs in the final semester of the MAT-Elementary program. Candidates will complete a 14 week internship in a PDS school, working with an assigned mentor teacher and university supervisor for a minimum of 70 days.  During the Practicum II, candidates are expected to observe and collaborate with the Mentor Teacher, gradually performing all professional and teaching responsibilities in the classroom for a minimum of 10 teaching days, 5 of which much be consecutive. Candidates will develop and teach a 10 day or two 5 day units during the Practicum. A service-learning experience would be included in one unit.  Candidates will also complete assignments associated with the EDUC 697: PracticumII and Seminar and will develop a professional portfolio, to be presented and evaluated at the Portfolio Interview event at the end of the semester.

Internship II Seminar

The weekly EDUC 697 Seminar will be varies based upon need.  Interns will meet weekly to discuss program requirements and field experience expectations.  This will continue for the duration of the semester.
