Goal 1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of literary works.

1.A Students will demonstrate a knowledge of literary history appropriate to the course. (This might include the development of new styles, modes, and genres as well as the emergence of major authors and texts.) 

1.B Students will demonstrate a knowledge of social, political, and intellectual history appropriate to the course. (This might include developments in science, government, law, education, and the other arts and how these developments are reflected in literature.) 

Goal 2. Students will demonstrate literary analysis.

2.A Students will demonstrate a knowledge of major literary genres, including the ability to classify texts correctly. 

2.B Students will demonstrate a knowledge of basic literary elements (e.g., metaphor, point of view, etc.). 

2.C Students will interpret literary works from an individual perspective. 

Goal 3. Students will examine literary theory.

3.A Students will demonstrate a knowledge of multiple theories and/or critical approaches to literature. 

3.B Students will demonstrate an ability to apply particular theories and/or critical approaches to texts, resulting in appropriate interpretations. 

Goal 4. Students will examine literacy.

4.A Students will demonstrate a knowledge of standard written English. 

4.B Students will share work in an oral presentation or its equivalent (e.g., a Zoom presentation, a YouTube video, etc.). 

4.C Students will present ideas and work in the oral tradition. 

4.D Students will use appropriate technologies. 

Goal 5. Students will use research methods.

5.A Students will locate and evaluate appropriate scholarly sources. 

5.B Students will synthesize information from multiple scholarly sources. 

5.C Students will integrate research with literary analysis.
