Student Learning Outcomes

Goal 1: Graduates of all concentrations in theatre will communicate effectively in speaking and writing. They will becomes proficient delivering public presentations, working in group situations, and interacting interpersonally. Students will also learn to write effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences. 

1.A Students will be proficient in performing in dramatic venues.

1.B Students will be able to effectively write for a variety of purposes and audiences.

1.C Students will develop theatrical skills in an applied area appropriate to their concentration, individually for performance and technical students.

Goal 2: Graduates of all concentrations in theatre will be able to think logically and critically. Theatre students should be proficient in the following: developing problem-solving approaches, conducting research, analyzing evidence and sources of evidence, distinguishing between sound and fallacious reasoning, and analyzing and evaluating texts and messages. 

2.A Students will be able to understand and evaluate literature for performance situations and the development of technical elements in theatre production.

2.B Students will conduct historical research in theatre and use the results of that research in the development of presentations on specific topics within theatre history. 

2.C Students will be able to understand and evaluate the role of a theatrical designer by demonstrating applied critical thinking by supporting their ideas with examples and/or terms and concepts covered in this course or readings. 

Goal 3: Students will possess an in-depth knowledge of the field of theatre. This will include major theoretical foundations in theatre. Students will also be able to utilize such information in practical applications of the theories and concepts.

3.A Students will be able to use theoretical foundations in practical applications in theatrical settings.

3.B Students will identify correct fundamental theatre lexicon and grammar.
