Student Teaching Requirements

STUDENT TEACHING CHECKLIST

    

Application for student teaching must be made the semester preceding the semester in which the student desires to complete the student teaching experience.

 

____ Have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 or higher for the general education component of undergraduate studies with a grade of “C” or better in the required courses taken as part of the General Education   Preparation Program; or Have completed the requirements for a baccalaureate degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.50 or higher;

____ Have a FAMU cumulative grade point average (GPA) 2.50 or higher with a grade of “C: or better in required courses taken within your major;

____ Have met all “Gordon Rule” requirements;

____ Must successfully complete a pre-admission interview by the College of Education Admissions Committee;  

____ Be admitted into the Teacher Education Program;

____ Successful completion of a level II security background clearance, possess proof of medical insurance, and possess proof of liability insurance;

____ Purchased TaskStream E-portfolio software;

____ Submit a Student Teaching Application; and

____ Be recommended by your department to student teach.

 

Students must be fully admitted to a professional teacher education program prior to internship and graduation.

 

Florida Statutes require individuals applying for a Florida teaching certificate to be finger printed and to reveal all criminal history record(s) including sealed or expunged record(s).  Section 943.0585., F.S.

 

Student applying for admission to a teacher education program should reveal all criminal history record(s) including sealed or expunged records(s). Students interning will be required to clear a level II security background clearance prior to interning and provide proof of medical and liability insurance.
