PROGRESS REPORTS
Report for 9/27:
My goals so far have been to do the visual part of my E-portfolio which are the video clips that I will use from two documentaires and "Leon On Me" (1989) and "Dangerous Minds" (1985). I want to create a slideshow or small clip of teaching in action to introduce the actual claim beign discussed --education in the works. I also am in the process of creating my homepage opening slideshow which I want to use to address any questions or assumptions my viewers may come in contact with when opening my E-Portfolo. I also have to create a venn diagram and a compile a series of images to use as visuals for som of the quotes that I want to pull from "The Banking Concept of Education" as well as "Acheivement of Desire". I want to finish with this part of my E-Portfolio to be able to analyze what my claims and data truly are saying to the reader. I also want to assure myself that my research is credible and that my inferences are used appropriately when agreeing or disagreeing with Paolo Freire theories.
What I have brought in today was three edited clips from Leon On Me, that highlight a few of the key points that I am using to talk about in both Freire's and Rodriguez's essays. I have also begun my two lists for my Banking Concept and Problem Posing venn diagram. Where I set up the faults and benefits but haven't really acknowledged the similarities between the two.
My project now has been outlined to where all my main tabs have been layed out as well as subtabs. I may add more subtable folders depending on more ideas that branch off mid way into the project.
What seems to be working is using some sections of Leon On Me to highlight my assumptions in the text, and its making it easier for me to view what I am trying to say as well as what I hope to get the reader to understand.
What needs work is finding ways where I can use Richard Rodriguez's essay and experiences to support/negate Freires theories. I want to play devil's advocate with his theories and use Rodriguez's experience as my backstory because I do not want to use my story since it would be somewhat biased depending on whether I agree or disagree with Freire. Using Rodriguez can help me piggy-back off his experiences and memories with the education system and see the end result as well.
Questions?
-I am wondering if it is okay for my to have somewhat of my own thesis of all the readings and videos I am using. As well as using them to support my thesis ?
Report for 9/30:
As of now I have created new video clips to support or give a visual of my points regarding Freire and Rodriguez's essays. I have also created lists that divide some of Freire's theories involving faults with the banking concept of education as well as the synthesized version of problem-posing education and how it differs so much from the act of depositing which is discussed in the Banking Concept of Education.
My goal for Tuesday is to have completed the Education Perspectives tab which focuses on modern society's interpretations of Education and its influences. This tab also includes history's form of education and its methods towards introducing knowledge to its students. I wanted to include this tab because it gives us a broad perspective on the different forms of education as well as how much it has evolved and eventually allow the reader to imagine the idea of problem posing as a way of teaching.
I currently do not have any questions but I will definitely be requesting comments from you by the end of the weekend so that by Tuesday I could have a concentrated idea of how much work I have successfully completed or an idea of what can be edited or reviewed more proficiently.
Report for 10/4:
My current progress since my last request for comments has been editing the information I have posted. I used the comments I got back from you and my group members to look back and see the areas of improvement that could be polished down a bit more. I fixed my use of "Rodriguez" instead of "Richard" during my description of "Achievement of Desire". I have also fixed some of my use of writing I tend to switch tenses a lot.
I have also added more personality to my analysis of Freire and Rodriguez excerpts and have included experiences and my own opinions.
I do not have any questions in particular but I do plan to be finished with my e-portfolio by Monday during the weekend. I plan to meet with Nohemi at least two times before Friday to be able to receive any last minute remarks on my overall project to see if she sees any areas of improvement.
Report for 10/7:
After having read some of my own work over and over I am able to see clearly how my E-portfolio concept of "Education" has been planning out, although I feel like I should focus more on the development of my ideas in an orderly fashion, but I will definitely focus on directing my work in a proper way.
My goal for next week is to be fully done with all my video edits na clips of movies, and the input of my text that supports each point i am trying to make.
No questons yet, but I will definitely keep you posted as the weekend continues.
Report for 10/11:
Some of my goals for my next meeting in class will be to have successfully completed my E-portfolio as I had envisioned it. I want to have included all the possible ideas that crossed my mind and I want to have fully exercised them in an appropriate manner, that is still understood.
Some of my concerns are that the different directions my E-portfolio is taking me is making me feel like the viewer/reader won't fully comprehend what I am tryign to fully get the reader to see or understand. I went from adding videos that resonate with the points that Freire seems to acknowledge, such as "Lean On Me" and "Dangerous Minds". I have also involved my personal experiences with education, as well as other instructors theories on the different methods of education there are -and which can be most productive. I have included Michael Knowles "informal education" theory as well as Alexander Kapp "andragogy" theories. I have also tried to take the different changes education has made throughout history into our society today. So although on paper it feels I took this broad idea of "EDUCATION" and stretched it across taskstream, I feel it can confuse the reader that isn't reading it from my understanding. So, I hope you can understand where I was trying to lead the reader.
My questions this week are:
-Is my E-portfolio organized enough to not confuse the reader with what my tabs are trying to interpret ?
-Should I add a conclusion to summarize my points in one precise tab?
- I am struggling with what to add to my home page? I can't seem to find an appropriate picture to brief the reader towards what they are about to see and read within my tabs. Do you have suggestions?
