The veteran memorial bridge is a compression arch suspended deck bridge and is located in Cleveland connecting Detriot and Superior hence the sub name. The bridge is made out of steel and concrete for durability. The bridge’s contruction began in 1914 and under went 3 years of construction, it’s completition year was 1917. The project was given to the King Bridge Company.

After completition the price that was given to the bridge was approximatly 5.4 million dollars which in todays currency totals to about 115,546,625.39 dollars. The bridge required approximatly 400 workers to build which worked a separate times and in shifts. The bridge itself has had just a few repairs and a major modification which was the shortening of the side walks for more road room. This modification is not very accepted among the public and it has been proposed to undo this modification.

The bridges construction has affected the community in a very positive way since it has united the east side and the west side. By doing so the bridge has made the spread of cultures much easier. The bridge has also allowed another way into downtown which help mercantilism. The bridge can be described as sustainable because it has held up for many years and has not created any hiderances to us. All of the above mentioned just goes to show that even though the construction of bridges can be taxing it also brings forth many benefits.
