Standard 2.4 Social Studies

I saw fit to display this lesson plan alongside this standard because it is a Social Studies Lesson. This lesson, though also integrates other lesson areas such as English Language Arts as described in the New York State Learning Standards, is mainly focused on Social Studies. It integrates history learning with character education learning to teach not only a physical lesson but a moral one as well. I also find that this lesson can be taught in a number of different grades, not just fifth like it suggests in the lesson plan.

I chose this lesson plan in particular because it best shows off my learning in this class. I was also able to perform this lesson in an actual fifth grade classroom, so I know how it would go if I were actually to teach it in my own classroom. Being able to teach it to an actual class has made it easier to see where I had made mistakes and fix them, and how it feels to be up in front of a class teaching a lesson. Like my Mathematics lesson plan this was also a terrific learning experience for me, which is why I believe this is the best artifact for this standard.
