I chose this work to align with this standard, first because it is a science lesson plan and second because of the hard work I put into it. This lesson plan aligns with many of the science standards but also integrates English Language Arts as well as The Arts as state in the New York State Learning Standards. This lesson is about the rock cycle and thoroughly engages students while teaching them everything they need to know about how rocks change into the different stages by weathering and erosion or heat and pressure, as described though New York State Standard 4: Science. I took the standard into consideration as I wrote this lesson plan, therefore I believe it fits well here.
I elected to put this work on my portfolio because it is one of the best lesson plans I have written. It fully covers each and every one of the 5 E's (engage, explore, explain, expand, evaluate). It is also so detailed, a substitute teacher could come into the class and teach the lesson just as easily as I would be able to. Everything the students need to know is right in the lesson plan. It also contains a list of all of the materials needed, and even provides a lesson plan with it. I worked very hard on this lesson plan and believe it to be my best one yet.
