Standard 4 - ASSESSMENT

All educational tasks uploaded in this area will be connected to ACEI Standard 4. Upload the identified artifacts and complete a comprehensive rationale as an introduction for each artifact. In addition using the Standards tab in the content editor add the specific standard that this artifact addresses. Additional resources connected to the artifact such as web links, video or rubrics can also be added through the content editor.

The first artifact I chose to display for this standard is a Formal Assessment. This aligns with the standard because it is a type of assessment. This can either be used as a regular worksheet or a test. It is a picture of the rock cycle with arrows pointing in different directions. Each arrow has a letter and the letter corresponds to a component of the rock cycle. Grading this assessment makes it a formal assessment, and it comes with an answer key for easy grading.

I chose this artifact because i am most proud of it. It is a worksheet that I made myself to work with my rock cycle lesson plan used for the science standard. I had tried to find a good worksheet online but could not find one that I really thought supported the topic, so I was forced to make my own, and am most pleased. This worksheet can also be made easier by simply adding a work bank to it. If it was to be used for a test I would suggest adding a word bank, but to be used as a form of assessment it is fine without.

The second artifact I elected to display for this standard is an Informal Assessment. This aligns with this standard because it is also a form of assessment. Informal assessment is defined as one with out a grade. This assessment is discussion based but other forms of informal assessment include models, portfolios or even posters. I think discussion is a very good example of informal assessment because it quickly shows comprehension of a topic. It also works as a good conclusion to a lesson to test knowledge without having to assign a grade to it.

I chose this artifact in particular because I used it in a classroom and found it to work quite well. The questions are open enough to insure proper discussion, and are a good way to test comprehension. This assessment is meant to go with my Social Studies lesson on the book Grandfather's Journey written by Allen Say. Being able to perform this in a classroom has made me more confident with it, and allowed me to see what was right and what had to be slightly altered. Performing it in front of a class also allowed me to think of other ways to incorporate it into other curriculums, and determine what worked and what did not. The students really seemed to enjoy the discussion that followed this book because it was still fresh in their minds and they could easily recall details.
