Standard 5.2 Collaboration with families, colleagues, and community agencies

This artifact aligns with this standard because it shows that I want to involve my students parents in the learning process. It also shows that I am not afraid to have a parent contact me, even at such a young and inexperienced state. This artifact also shows that I want my students' parents informed about what goes on in the classroom, and I am not afraid to send a note home. It introduces me as a teacher to the parents, in a formal but still informal way. It makes me seem open and approachable no matter what question or comment a parent may have.

I added this artifact because I believe it is well written. I put a lot of time and effort into making sure it sounded just right. I wrote this letter before starting my practicum experience in my junior year at SUNY Cortland as a way to introduce myself to my practicum students' parents. Although I was not permitted by my host teacher to send home the letter, I still feel it is a good way to let the parents or guardians know what is going on. I feel it is written informal enough that I seem approachable, but formal enough that I come across as a serious teacher, who has education as her first priority.
