  • Recruited over 200 participants for study conducted connectedness and well-being in relation to sexual orientation
  • Presented at Loyola Undergraduate Research Symposium and CAURS in 2010-2012
  • SPSS to conduct ANOVA tests, also used qualitative analysis for extended response questions
  • Found that completely homosexual and heterosexual participants had similar levels of well-being and connectedness to others and important institutions
  • Found that bisexual, mostly homosexual, and mostly heterosexual participants felt significantly less connected to others and that their sexual identity was less respected

Biography with Research Statement

Timothy McAlister is a 2012 graduate who majored in psychology at Loyola University Chicago. He served as a research assistant for Dr. Anthony Borrow in his race perception lab. He was a student presenter at CAURS and LUROP in 2010-2012. He won best presentation in psychology at CAURS in 2010. After graduation, he looks to become apart of a research lab focusing on sexual orientation development. In the fall of 2013, he plans to enter a graduate program in developmental psychology with an emphasis in sexual development and has plans to become a professor in psychology.
