DePaul University

I am a future graduate of Loyola University Chicago (May 2012) with a degree in Psychology and minors in sociology and gender studies. I was excited to learn that you have an opening in your lab at the DePaul University. I have enclosed my resume for your consideration along with my application. The chance to work in a research lab that works within the community is an brilliant opportunity and appeals to my interest as a developing researcher.

As a diligent student and worker at Loyola University Chicago, I have worked in a research lab headed by Dr. Anthony Burrow. In his race and identity lab, I administered surveys to research participants and coded their behaviors in simulated situations. I also analyzed data using SPSS and trained new members in the lab on lab procedures and SPSS use. I also conducted an independent research project under Dr. Burrow for which I was awarded the Loyola Provost Fellowship and an Honors Degree in Psychology. My researched looked at the how connectedness and well-being was linked to sexual orientation and disclosure of orientation status. Through working in the Dr. Burrow’s lab and as an independent researcher, I demonstrated the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

I know that DePaul University enjoys an excellent reputation as a leader in the academic research community. I believe that I would be a valuable asset to your research lab. I can be contacted at tmcallister@luc.edu or (773) 961-7292. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Timothy W. McAlister
