In the fall of 2003 I took my first education class, introduction to education. I had no idea that this class would be such an amazing experience. I realized through this class that teaching was what I was predestined to do. This class educated me so much about the profession. We had many classroom discussions about many issues, issues that affect the teaching profession today and some might affect it in the future. The issues ranged from gender roles, to gifted education, to testing. We also had some wonderful guest speakers. They shared with us their views on failing schools, creating classroom environment, and what it is like to teach junior high. We were able to study many controversial issues in teaching and were given the opportunity to come to our own opinions on each matter without being judged. Not all the time was spent in the classroom. We had the magnificent opportunity to venture into the community and spend time in classrooms. I was able to spend time in both a Junior High and High School. The time I spent at those places helped with my conclusion; I will someday be a teacher! This class was more than just a group of students going to school each day, it was a community of future teachers eager to start our careers and help to educate America’s youth.
