Service to the Community

Member of the Central Ohio YMCA Board/Head Start Policy Council (Collaboration with the Community, Leadership in the Community)

I continue to serve as a board member for the Central Ohio YMCA.  This position not only assists the YMCA with being in compliance for their Head Start Program, but I will also have an opportunity to work directly with the directors of the Head Start Program and support their curriculum and instruction initiatives.  I also serve on the Head Start Advisory Committee.  This service to the community has resulted in Otterbein students the recruitment of Otterbein Teacher Candidates and opportunities to support our candidates in learning to teach ELL (Educ. 2600).  In addition, this year I have participated in the Head Start Summits.  I am working closely with the YMCA to help shape the future of the Head Start.

Member of the Dowd Center Education Sub-committee

Through this affiliation, Otterbein Students have been connected to the Dowd.  I also support the Dowd and tutored students during my Sabbatical.

Facilitated Service-Learning Projects that engaged Otterbein students in serving the community (connects to Otterbein’s Mission Statement)

Through the support of Otterbein’s COELEC Higher Ed. Initiative, students prepared and presented Literacy Lessons at the Cherry Creek YMCA.
These classrooms represent a diverse student population, including English Language Learners.  Spring, 2014

Serve as Item Reviewer for PARCC

Trained and Participated in Range Finding for OPAPP Assessments

Participate in the OPAPP (Ohio Performance Assessment Pilot Project) as a Coach for Practicing Teachings (including Otterbein Graduates).  This project has really been valuable to me as an instructor. I am learning what Ohio Teachers will be required to do as well as what is really happening in classrooms.
