The outlook is very good.
Although the automotive industry has been in terrible economic trouble for the last three years, we still have higher than average demand for our students, we usually have the highest or near highest placement record in the state. Even though times are tough, the need to maintain the flow of entry level technicians is mandatory in any service facility. Regardless of the economy, older employees move on and there needs to be qualified replacements being trained to fill their spots.
Other evidence of a promising outlook is the constant growth of the program, we have added another instructor to help meet the demand of the students interested in this field.
We are always receiving positive feedback from the dealers who employ our students. We have students that are two or three years out of school that are top producers in their service departments.
The Automotive Technology Program has a paid internship program using the AYES (Automotive Youth Educational System) program, therefore the cooperative education chart does not apply. The interns work in the service lane or service shop with the dealerships top employees and technicians. They work on the same repairs the technician is working on at any given time, and learn real world hands on diagnosis and repair of today's vehicles.
1st year interns earn $9.00 per hour
2nd year interns earn $10.00 per hour
