Content: This unit was created in the Spring of 2008 during my Student Teaching. I was under the advisement of my co-operating teacher, Mrs. Heather Thompson. I designed a social studies unit that addresses the standard course of study that integrated technology for the students. The unit covered the time from the 1900's to Present day.
Impact: This unit enabled the students to study the differences in fashion, sports, entertainment, science and technology, and politics during the early 1900's through the present day. The children researched books and used the internet to find facts on these topics. Once the facts where found and discussed, we put the facts into a power point presentation for the students and let them present to the faulty, staff, friends, and family members of our community. This was done with a group of five children presenting their topic for a time period each day. Afterwards we served punch and cookies to our guest. The presentation was one of the culminating activities and a field trip to Old Salem in Winston Salem, North Carolina is planned for early May.

The students were actively involved in research on the computer and books, watched many videos via United Streaming, and read from a power point that was created by myself and my co-operating teacher. These power points were used during the presentation to their parents, family, staff, faulty, and friends.
