Public Service Announcements Overview:

"Public service announcements (PSAs) are commercials that are sponsored by a non-profit organization to convey pro-social information to the public, or reinforce or change attitudes about specific issues. Many private organizations sponsor their own PSAs to raise awareness about the warning signs of stroke, for example, which may be sponsored by a local hospital. A "get your dog spayed" PSA might be sponsored by the local Humane Society. On MTV, the "Rock the Vote" campaign to encourage youth voter registration was sponsored by a non-profit organization which created PSAs featuring many popular musical artists and celebrities."

PURPOSE: To defend and credential your learning or what you already know about the privileges and freedoms extended to all digital technology users, and behavioral expectations.

ASSIGNMENT: Create a public service announcement that communicates the problem, consequences, and solutions, and encourages an identified audience to take action against the activity.

STEPS TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT:

1. Select one of the topics discussed in class regarding your digital footprint and online awareness (cyberbullying, social texting/sexting, online branding, social networks, the pros and cons of the Internet, etc..) or online safety, security, and health/wellness (Internet addiction, social texting/sexting, online predators, viruses, phishing scams, etc…)
2. Watch the example PSAs attached below.
3. Select a digital tool (Prezi, Animoto, Google Doc/presentation, Photoshop for a poster, GoAnimate, etc... USE YOUR IMAGINATION!)
4. Make a copy of the “PSA Planning Form” Google doc and begin researching and organizing the content for your PSA.
5. When complete, attach or load your final PSA below by clicking on the appropriate button below.
