Research and Assessment: Mini-Research Proposal

I greatly enjoyed the process of writing this mini-research proposal. My topic was focused on multiracial identity development and incorporated two theoretical models. In structuring my research approach I had to weigh the benefits and deficits of the different methodologies: qualitative, quantitative, and mixed. Ultimately I took a largely qualitative approach since the information I was looking for was the descriptive experience of students as they made more complicated meaning of their identity.  For this reason I think this artifact demonstrated my understanding of the various research methodologies. Additionally, ethical considerations - such as how do I keep this information confidential and how will it be reported that best represents the voice of my participants - were considered in my research methodology. In order to support my approach to answering my research questions, I provided examples using existing literature in my literature review. Through this process I further developed as a critical consumer of various types of research studies. This skill is clearly demonstrated by the way that I identified and concisely described existing research data and applied it toward answering my research questions. Finally, I utilized surveys to obtain information. These surveys are an example of my ability to use assessment or evaluation procedures in order to obtain new knowledge. In sum, I think that this artifact is profound example of my ability to create a research problem and take the appropriate steps in order to answer these questions.
