Upon reflection, this artifact was one of the most formative experiences of my second semester within the program. Within the paper I analyzed Gilligan's Theory of Moral Development using my personal experience in order to identify its strengths and limitations for use. Incorporating my personal experience to add a qualitative dimension to this theory required me to use my analytical abilities - I needed to be critical of my experiences in order to apply them practically to the various levels of Gilligan's theory. I compared and contrasted my experiences with the original theory articulated by Gilligan - adding credibility to my argument. Furthermore, primary source documents were cited throughout the paper to strengthen my argument. I think this artifact demonstrates my ability to develop and support reasonable and logically sound interpretations. Using my personal experiences and primary source evidence to analyze this theory allowed me articulate examples where this theory fell short. This synthesized knowledge demonstrates my ability to use theoretical and empirical research in order to address problems. Specifically, I identified – for me – when this theory would be appropriate and inappropriate to use. In sum, I think this artifact is an example of my ability to make strong logical arguments and incorporate outside data in order to analyze a specific topic. Based on this analysis, I was then able to apply this new knowledge to address specific practical problems in higher education.
