WHEN DO WE HAVE HOMEWORK?
Math homework is given all weekdays. Science homework is only given Mondays and Wednesdays. Of course, there are occasional projects that may require additional homework time. Science elective students will only have homework if they did not complete their work in class. For this reason homework will mostly be listed for 6th grade students.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO LEARN IN MATH THIS YEAR?
In math we touch on topics to prepare you for algebra. These include: order of operations, fractions, decimals, percents, integers, equations, geometry, sampling and bias, graphing, and probability. The focus of the 6th grade CST is on setting up and solving proportions, so that naturally, you will see a lot them relating to scale, percents, etc.
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO LEARN IN SCIENCE/ HEALTH THIS YEAR?
We will explore ideas about how the Earth is always changing. We will first brush up on the geography of Earth so we can better study it. We will focus on plate movements, erosion and deposition, heat transfer, energy resources, and ecology. Our health lessons are on making good decisions, conflict resolution, and specific information about alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs.
DO YOU GIVE EXTRA CREDIT?
Extra credit tickets are given out for student participation on occasion. Each ticket is worth a point on any quiz or test. Aside from these tickets, extra credit is seldom given. You will be graded on at least thirty different assignments throughout each semester. Turn in work the first time, make up work when you are absent, learn from your mistakes, and just do your best.
CAN I TURN IN LATE WORK?
Certain assignments are NOT at all accepted late. This includes any math homework or any vocabulary work in science. Some large assignments are accepted up to a few days late. You will recieve much less credit than if it was turned on time.
